Abstract
This study highlights the role of the United Nations General Assembly in formulating and developing the rules of contemporary international law, By exercising itspowers unde Article 13 of the UN Charter,the General Assemblyassumes aquasi-legislative function, clearly manifested in the issuance of normative resolutions and recommendations. evident This role extends to the codification and gradual development of international law, transforming unwritten customary rules into codified international treaties, thereby enhancing the stability of international relations and strengthens the rule of law. Furthermore, the study examines the implications of this practice and its profound impact on the traditional sources of international law, specifically those contained in Article 38 of the statute of the international Court of Justice. The study analyzing the extent to which these resolutions contribute to the formation of stable international rules, revealing or creating international custom, and how this legal process serves as a catalyst for the legitimacy and effectiveness of the contemporary international legal system in the face of evolving global challenges. Based on the above, with the aim of addressing the fundamental problem and highlighting the contribution of the United Nations General Assembly to the formulation and gradual development of international law, the research was divided into two sections: In the first, we dealt with the legal framework of the idea of developing international law from the perspective of implementing the United Nations Charter, and in the second, we discussed the legislative nature of the General Assembly’s resolutions and their impact on the sources of traditional international law.
