Abstract
The importance of studying the subject of national protection of world heritage in accordance with the Convention of 1972, opportunities and challenges of implementation in Iraq, because of the lack of studies and research in this subject in the Arab world, especially Iraq, and the modernity of the laws of antiquities and heritage and the lack of national and international legislation in it, in addition to raising awareness among citizens of this valuable heritage, and because the world heritage is unique and non-renewable, so this research deepened in the presentation and analysis of the texts of the Convention and addressed the role of Iraqi national legislation and show the extent of its shortcomings to preserve the world heritage listed and not registered on the list. The problem arises from the fact that Iraq ratifies agreements, including the 1972 Convention, without actually implementing them, in addition to stating whether this agreement entails international responsibility for those who violate its obligation
